Cleansing or detoxifying the body is good for everyone. You’ll lose the excess weight. You’ll rid your body of toxins. You’ll boost your energy. You’ll improve your skin and get healthier hair. You’ll strengthen your immune system.
The question is which among the many detox diets should you choose?
Some detox diets might be too extreme for you, like no-eating cleanses or the water-only-and-strict-fasting-for-days detox. Then there are detox diets with the aid of boosters, like herbal laxatives and colonics.
But if you want something easier and certainly healthier, here’s a detox diet that works well — without the deprivation or starvation.
Load up on antioxidants.
Antioxidants make liver enzymes go to work so the bad stuff is flushed out of your system. These enzymes make harmful substances or toxins water soluble. Get more fruits and vegetables. Choose whole grains and beans. Try pineapple, cranberries, kale, spinach, artichokes, and black beans.
Eat garlic.
It’s pretty potent, aroma-wise. But it’s also the best protection against toxins. Garlic contains a chemical called allicin, which promotes the production of white blood cells. You don’t have to eat a whole bulb of raw garlic. Just chop up a clove or two — still raw — and add it to your salad dressing.
Get more beetroot in your diet.
Beetroot is hailed as another super food. It’s packed with vitamin C, magnesium, and iron. It can also support liver detoxification. You can mix up a beetroot salad or juice it for a nice cleansing drink.
Flush away fat with a green tea cooler.
Green tea is renowned for its weight loss benefits. It’s also very high in antioxidants, which means it’s the ideal detoxifying ingredient in your diet. If you’re bored of drinking just hot green tea, you can try a cooler mix. Just add eight cups of brewed green tea to a pitcher of sliced oranges, lemons, and lime. Put it in the fridge. And pour over a tall glass for a refreshing afternoon cleanse.
Drink your breakfast.
Fresh fruit smoothies are not only effective for flushing out the toxins, they are also pretty delectable, too. Making this detoxification feel like an awesome reward instead of a sacrifice. Try a tart berries and ginger smoothie. You could also go for the usual green smoothie with kale, cucumber, avocado, and coconut water. Or try a mix of strawberries, bananas, orange, and almond milk.
Going on a detox is like rebooting your system, so that you stay healthy longer and look better as you get a bit older. But deprivation or starvation is not necessary. Just make the right choices with your detox staples. And try to cleanse whenever you’ve eaten way too many fatty foods and consumed too much alcohol.
