Although it is a normal stage in a woman’s life, menopause can present itself with some unpleasant symptoms and menopause relief solutions may be required.

Menopause is caused by a change in hormone levels, especially estrogen. It is a normal process that comes with age and decrease in ovary function. The low levels of sexual hormones slowly stop the ovulation (the monthly production of eggs) and the capacity of conception, but can also produce symptoms that women find uncomfortable. Luckily, not all women are affected and the degree of discomfort is variable.

No matter the intensity of the symptoms, you can improve your condition through a multitude of methods. Some can be applied directly at home, but, for others, you must seek a physician’s advice.

The first menopause relief option you should think about is a lifestyle change. A healthier diet with an increase in your physical activity level is welcome at any moment in your life, but, now, the effects can be felt right away.

Another thing you should do is pay attention to your body. Take notice when common symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings appear and what may cause them. Try to avoid the trigger in the future.  For the above-mentioned hot flashes, you can also try dressing in layers so that you could easily help your body cool down, avoid spicy food, hot drinks, caffeine and keep up with that physical exercise.

Women at menopause also encounter trouble sleeping. The first step is applying the well-known remedies recommended for everyone with the same problem: go to sleep and wake up at the same hour every day, avoid coffee and other energizing drinks in the second part of the day, drink a hot tea or milk before going to bed and avoid computers, tablets, TV or other electronic devices right before sleep. Skipping the afternoon nap may help as well.

To combat vaginal dryness and have a normal sexual life, you can use a vaginal moisturizer or lubricant. There are over the counter options, but you can always discuss with your physician.

For more severe symptoms and more powerful treatment options, a doctor’s advice is mandatory. In some cases, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be recommended, but it has its risks. It helps with heart diseases, but it may worsen other preexisting condition. It can also be prescribed by a doctor after a thorough discussion about your medical history.

Since each woman is unique, the menopause relief solutions that work for one may not work for others.
