Constipation in infants – how to treat it? Part 2

By Body Health Guide

menopause relief

In the previous part, we discussed some of the most well known cures that can help relief infant constipation, and the myths surrounding these. As you have noted laxatives and suppositories carry the myth of being the best, but these are actually not that beneficial. Let us see now which are those treatments and habits that will help eliminate infant constipation. The number one rule is not to administer your child laxatives or suppositories, only when needed in special cases, and not regularly. For an infant, breast milk is the most nutritious compound that will help his digestive system working very well. Therefore, you should breast-feed the baby for as log as it is possible. Formulas may come only after breast-feeding is over.

Hydration is the most important. Newborns are not allowed to drink water, except for a few drops at the beginning. As your child grows, you should get him or her used to drinking water all throughout the day. You just prepare a bottle with water to which you will add some cold Rooibos tea. This is natural tea, which will give a little color and taste to the water, while protecting the digestive system thanks to the natural compounds.  Then make sure your child drinks every day one or two such bottles of water with Rooibos tea. Staying hydrated is very important in young children, and this will help them staying away from constipation.

Baby enemas can also be helpful. Certainly, you must use these only occassionaly, and not on a regular basis, otherwise your child will not be able to develop a healthy bowel movement program on his own. Enemas and suppositories can become addictive to the tract, so you must be careful with those. A combination of lukewarm water and olive oil in a bulb syringe will become the best enema for your baby.
